Skills Assessment
Skills Asssessment will be held on Saturday March 27, 2010 in the Super Gym at the Kearney YMCA.
All players, ages 9-16, wishing to be on a team must attend Skills Assessment
If you are unable to attend, you must notify a league officer at least 72 hours before the event.
Schedule
- 9 year olds 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
- 10 year olds 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
- 11 year olds 12:00 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.
- 12 year olds 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.
- 13/14 year olds (Junior League) 2:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
- 15-16 year olds (Senior League) 3:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Equipment Requirements
- Players should come dressed in athletic attire, dressing rooms will not be provided
- Players are only required to bring their baseball glove
- A hat and a protective cup (NO CLEATS) are recommended
- Players may use their own bat and helmet if available
A Note For Our Parents
- After your player has been checked in and given his number, please remain seated in the parent’s seating area.
- Parents will not be allowed to sit with their players before or during the try-out process.
Procedure
- As players arrive at Skills Assessment they will be registered and receive a number to pin to their shirt or pants
- Prior to tryouts stations, players will have the ability to warm-up for 10 minutes though additional warm-up is recommended prior to registration
- After given their number players will be placed in numeric order in the player’s seating area
- Within each age division, players will be divided into three groups
- All three groups will participate simultaneously in the following stations.
- Two Little League Board Members will be at each station and will evaluate each player using a predetermined scoring system.ÂManagers/Coaches will NOT take part in the Skills Assessment.
Infield Station
- Allows those doing the assessment to see player’s ability to field, throw and catch
- Players will have three (3) consecutive balls hit to them at the shortstop position.
- After fielding the ball, the player will throw to first base. The player on first base will throw to home.
Hitting Station
- Allows those doing the assessment to see player’s ability to hit.
- Players will attempt to hit five (5) pitched balls.
Pitching Station
- Allows those doing the assessment to see each player’s ability to pitch.
- Each player will throw five (5) consecutive pitches at a target.
- There may or may not be a catcher available.
Catchers, special notes
- There will not be a specific station to view catching ability
- When registering players will be asked if they have catching experience, or if they are interested in catching.
- Those players’ names will be compiled at the end of that age groups assessment.
