Team Selection Process

Draft/Team Selection procedures are currently under review by the League Board. Look for changes in this process in the near future.

Players should be contacted by their coach within 72 hours of the draft.

Draft Procedures

Kearney Little League will use a common player pool draft to assign players to teams.
Each division (9’s, 10’s, 11-12’s, Juniors and Seniors) will hold a separate draft presided over by a Kearney Little League Board Member
All players and teams will be re-drafted annually.

Determining Draft Order

Coaches will participate in a random draw to determine draft order. Each coach will select a number to determine his teams draft order. The method used for this draw must be random, and all coaches will have equal chance to select any number.

Designating Leagues

After the selection order is completed a flip of a coin will determine if the even or odd numbered teams are American or National league. Heads will determine American League is odd and tails National League is odd. The coin flip will be done by the presiding board member administering the draft and will be done in presence of all coaches from the league. American and National leagues need to be determined prior to any players being selected.

Player Selection

Draft order will proceed as follows:

Round 1 will proceed in ascending order based on draft pick order.
1 – X (where X is the total number of teams in the league)

Round 2 will proceed in ascending order
1 – X (coaches freeze child or sibling)

Round 3 will proceed in descending order
X – 1 (where X is the total number of teams in the league)

Round 4 will proceed in descending order
X – 1 (coaches freeze child or sibling)

Beginning with round 5 through the last FULL draft round, selections will alternate between 1 – X, and X-1.

Following the last FULL draft round where ALL teams are able to select player, the remaining players will be selected in the following method. Coaches will choose a new draft order randomly. Slips of paper matching the number of teams in the league will be placed in the drawing. (Example if it is a 6-team league, 6 slips of paper will be placed in the drawing). If there are 4 players left, the slips of paper will have the numbers 1 – 4 on them and 2 slips would be left blank. Coaches would draw and choose the remaining players based on the draft order that they chose.
